Dreaming of a day off

Winter is nearly over, thank goodness. The past 6 weeks have been non-stop colds and flu at our place, as soon as one is better, another gets it, mostly me! I am dreaming of a day off – hubby to take child out for the day and me to turn the computer and sewing machines OFF! Especially tempting when said child decides to clean the vegemite fingerprints off the couch…by tipping a bottle of water onto it!
Anne even has a blog dedicated to the concept! My Day Off.
This Day Off in a Box from Beauty Banquet sounds like the perfect thing when I finally get the chance!
Wave everyone off, close the door and take the day off. Everything you need for the perfect day off is here in one box. The pretty gift box contains
- classic dvd
- cosmetic bag
- scented candle
- BB bath spice
- Ms Frufru body butter
- BB soap
- 3pack Ferrero Rocher
All you have to supply is the hot bath and perhaps some tissues for the chick flick.
We need to find a winner at Aussie Boutique Kids

We are nearly at the end of our challenge at Aussie Boutique Kids.
It’s finally time to select an overall winner from the top 6 items over the past 3 weeks. It’s been a lot of fun finding these wonderful items and I certainly hope it has put a smile on the faces of some of our wonderfully talented Aussie sewers and crafters out there to receive a tiny bit of recognition for their hard work and efforts.
Best of luck ladies!
Please take a minute to pop over to ABK and place your vote.
Thank you!

Wrapping things up

Everyone loves getting packages in the mail. Especially packages which are wrapped nicely. It can make an ordinary day feel like it’s your birthday!
Elizabeth from La Toriana is well known for her beautiful wrapping – thick white paper and persoalised La Toriana ribbon, her packages really are a delight to receive. She inspired me to try and wrap my parcels nicely, and this is what we came up with. I try and suit the wrap to the person it’s going to and have 4 different combinations to choose from. I use tissue paper, but do have “proper” gift wrap available on request.
I’ve had a busy weekend sewing, I’m hoping to get a pile of t-shirts photographed tomorrow and online by the end of the week.
UPDATE – I just saw that Laine at IckleKids has given me a blogging award. Thank you Laine!
So, now I have to nominate some of my favourite blogs for the award.
Swish and Swanky – Amanda finds the most wonderful things to display on her blog, I love to see what she has come up with.
Pottering About – Another blog of interesting finds…and hopefully some fine creations to come soon!
The Fairy’s Kiss – Sally showcases some of the wonderful designs she sells in her boutique.
All Things Lovely – Kylie shares her creations and inspirations.
Ginger Blossom love

Sandi Henderson’s Ginger Blossom is one of my favourite lines of fabric. Particularly this waterlily print, I adore the colours and the coordinates. When mine arrived several weeks ago, I was itching to get straight into it, and also to try out a skirt tutorial I found on Tanya Whelan’s blog.
However, the tutorial didn’t allow for overlocking and I, um, well, sort of mucked it up a little bit. From the outside it looks fine, however some of the inside seams are not upto my perfecting standards (the standards which drive my long suffering mother to distraction and ensure that the unpicker gets a good workout!). This one is around a size 5/6 so far too big for Miss TikiBoo, so will be finding a home with a gorgeous girl in Sydney who has just turned five-and-a-half. She hasn’t seen it yet so I do hope she likes it!
Moral of the tale is to not attempt new patterns on good fabric, test it on something cheap to start with!
We won’t be adding these skirts to All You Need, however we will have some gorgeous designs featuring Sandi Henderson fabric, but you’ll have to wait a few weeks until we have had our photoshoot!
Uncooperative models

One of the trickiest things in this business is managing to get great photos. Even trickier when your model is two-and-a-half years old. And sick of having mummy making her put on pretty clothes and asking her to look at the camera or stand still. Trickier still when it’s 4:30pm, child is hungry and cranky, you really wanted to take the photos in the kitchen but the light isn’t good enough, your husband is still learning his way around a camera (and doesn’t realise that you left the camera on a custom white balance setting so all the photos turn out blue). But you really, really need a photo for your newsletter that you want to send tonight, so you persist. And end up having to just minipulate some previous product shots in photoshop!
These were meant to be illustrating our current special offer on our TikiBoo aprons – if you buy a child’s apron and an adult’s apron together, you save upto 15%. (Plus, if you use the code TBAPRON you will receive matching hair accessories!).
Luckily said model is more cooperative when it’s someone other that mummy or daddy taking the photos!

Appliques are a-happening
August 8, 2008 at 1:30 pm | In Boutique clothing, Designer, Progress Reports, TikiBoo updates, all you need, australia, kids clothing, sewing, wahm | 2 CommentsTags: applique, kids clothing, sewing, t-shirts
I had a brief burst of sewing energy yesterday, and completed
some of the growing pile of appliques I have cut and ready to go. This one is a gift for my friend’s gorgeous little man, Jasper. She had mentioned that it was really hard to find green clothes for little boys, so when I discovered this green Bonds t-shirt in my “pile of stuff”, I just had to make it.
Unfortunately I think the white balance in the camera wasn’t set properly as it’s really more of a grassy green colour which will suit his colouring perfectly.
Now to complete the whales and butterflies and get them up onto the website.
