I finally managed to get the TikiBoo shorts and skirts finished, photographed and into All You Need yesterday.  Using the flashes made things so much easier, although if I had more time I’d play around to get them slightly better.  It took me a while to get them right playing with the settings, until I recalled custom white balance which made a huge difference.  I wonder if Mike will let me keep them?!

My t-shirts were being shipped today so will hopefully arrive before the end of the week.  I’m going to create some appliques based on Bethany’s Critter Collection cards.  I particularly love the whale, it would look so cute in the aqua disco dot print I used for these shorts:

The swing tags finally arrived today – still not right.  This time they had neglected to punch the holes, yet still charged me for the service.  A small battle going on there, as they want to give me a store credit rather than a refund.  You can imagine my thoughts about that!

Any idea where I can find a punch which makes smaller holes than the type used for regular ring binders?

Lights, camera…

Hubby and I have started a photography course, it will be great to have a hobby which we can share.  I took the brave step of switching my camera to fully manual mode yesterday while attending a children’s birthday party and have to say it was a great improvement, discovering the correct settings to take indoor shots without the flash.  We’re currently using a Nikon D50 with a 50mm 1.8 lens, but hoping to upgrade, the D700 is on the wish list!

Tomorrow, while the TikiBoo is at grandma’s, I’m going to have a play with the fancy flashes I borrowed from my friend while he is overseas.  He did give me a quick lesson and I did take a few notes so I should be able to manage it.  It will be great to hopefully get some product photos which I don’t have to spend hours photoshopping.

So, all going well I hope to have the TikiBoo skirts in the store by Wednesday.  AND I should have a couple of pairs of cute boy’s shorts ready to add as well.   I was hoping the t-shirts would be here by now, but it’s looking doubtful unfortunately.

Really, it is.  I went out this morning, in the pouring rain, and it was 13 degrees outside, that’s arctic for Brisbane!

I don’t have much to report on the progress of anything.  A friend is bringing over some lights for me to borrow, so I can get some pics of the skirts, it’s been so dark and grey, my little lights can’t cope without some good daylight.

You’ll want a photo I’m sure, so here’s a little bag I made a while ago.  It’s based on an Amy Butler pattern which I enlarged, using a Michael Miller series of fabric I purchased on ebay a few years ago.  I love the pink, black and white combination, and adore the dot pattern.  It’s just a cute, fun little bag.

I may add a few smaller bags to All You Need at some stage, I have two here already made, one is in pink shades, the other black and white.  They are fun to make so I shall stich up a few more one of these days.

Apparently the reprint of the TikiBoo Kids swing tags is now done and I should expect them any day now.  Let’s just hope they’re right this time!

Sometimes things go wrong

I have had the worst time with getting my new swing tags printed.  First of all I was dealing with someonw who seemed to have no clue.  He kept sending me emails telling me that the back artwork was too large.  In what way?!  He couldn’t tell me that, could he?  Eventually I call, and am told that this person no longer works there.

So, in talking to helpful girl, we deduce that the issue is I turned the template 90 degrees to add the text, and so I should just fix it and resend the back file.  No problem.  Done.  Fast forward to today, courier delivers cards, hooray!  I excitedly rip open the backage to find this.  back is fine.  Front is, well, Blank. No front artwork.  So I get on the phone to them quick smart (yes, me, phone!) and ask what on earth is going on.  they have no front artwork on file.   So all files have been resent and job will be redone asap.

In more cheerful news, I picked up a small parcel of fabrics this morning.

Not from my usual supplier, just another place I wanted to check out.  They are Robert Kaufmann japanese inspired fabrics which I think will make nice summer skirts for ladies rather than kids, for a change.  The first one is a lovely lightweight cotton, the black and red is a heavier cotton.

I did very little sewing this weekend, I had better get cracking again!

A local find

We found some really cute Andover fabrics locally here in Brisbane yesterday!  That’s pretty rare, I usually have most of my stuff sent from the USA, costing me a small fortune in shipping costs.  I found a few funky stripes for boys, then a whole set of an adorable collection for girls.  I’ve just prewashed it all to make a dress for Alexandra as I have a pattern which needs testing – plus I’m not sure whether other people will like it as much as I do!  I also found some top quality elastic for a fantastic price, so it was a good day.

I can’t wait until the weather warms up a bit more so she can start to wear all these dresses and skirts.  I did go searching for leggings the other day so she could wear them now, but couldn’t find anything decent.  This summer is going to be skirts and dresses only as we need to get this toilet training happening, so need to make it as easy as possible!

There are still a few errors in the webstore and I haven’t heard back from the designers which is a bit annoying.

Anyway, here are the skirts in progress.

Is now online with a brand new look!  We are so happy with it, Shelley and the My Graphic Garden team have done a fantastic job!  Have a look and tell me what you think www.allyouneed.com.au

Here are a few of the new applique t-shirts I’ve been working on.   The skirt I was working on last post is finished and I’ve cut out three more, but haven’t sewn them up yet, must get onto that asap.

We hope to have a few new lovely ladies join our All You Need team, which is very exciting.  I wish I could tell you more, but will wait for confirmation!

Skirting the issue

I set myself a goal last Tuesday of making a skirt a day, I haven’t actually been meeting it – I am onto number 4, although numbers one and four are trials.  But I am getting there, once number 4 is complete I just need to decide which style I prefer, and where to put the new TikiBoo labels.

This is number 4, in progress.

I am so tempted to start playing with the farmers market…should I, or should I wait for the rest to arrive – possibly weeks if not months?  Maybe just one little skirt?

The new All You Need website is COMPLETE.  I found this out on Friday evening, when I came back to the computer after putting Alexandra to bed, so missed the notification wanting confirmation to switch over!  Devastating!  So it looks like Monday will be the day.

I picked up the first round of Farmers Market by Sandi Henderson today.

Yes, this is how I open my boxes, ripping into them at the traffic lights!

It’s so lovely, has gone to the very top of my favourite fabric list.  The colours are much brighter and more vivid that they show on screen.

Now to decide what to make!  That’s if I can bring myself to cut into it at all.  I hope I get the rest soon, it’s always hard when you only have part of an order and have to wait.  Waiting, certainly not my strongest attribute!

They arrived!

I forgot the fedex man was coming this morning and had to quickly discard my fluffy pink dressing gown and throw on a jumper DH had kindly left on a chair by the door! But, hooray, the new TikiBoo Kids labels are here!

They are a white ultrasonic cut foldover style with ‘TikiBoo’ embroidered in a teal colour and ‘Kids’ in a lighter shade.  Nice and simple.  There was also another little label I ordered, but it’s a secret for now.  If I post that one now I’ll run out of things to blog about.

I was impressed with the speedy turnaround and service provided by the place I ordered them from, my first business dealing with an overseas company.  What on earth did we do before email and express shipping?

So, now I guess we have to do some sewing so we have some clothing to put the labels into!  I have just cut out a skirt to make a trial for Alexandra, if it goes well I might add it to the range.

Stay tuned!
